Tavil Maestro
A. K. Palanivel first learnt thavil drumming under the tutelage of his father S. Kumaravel. From 1959 onwards, he was given extensive training to T.G. Muthukumara Swamy Pillai. He has performed widely in India and abroad accompanying senior artists and participating in ensembles of instrumental music and also dance. In 2001 he received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian award of Padma Shri in 2004.
Mridangam Maestro
Umayalpuram Sivaraman was born to P. Kasiviswanatha Iyer, a doctor, and his wife, Kamalambal. He was one of 5 children and his mother died of smallpox at a young age. He learned the art of the Carnatic mridangam from four gurus over fifteen years: Arupathi Natesa Iyer, Tanjore Vaidyanatha Iyer, Palghat Mani Iyer and Kumbakonam Rangu Iyengar.[1] He also graduated from the University of Madras with a B.A. & B.L.

Thanjavur R. Govindarajan is a Carnatic thavil artist from Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, trained initially by his father R. Rajamannar and later by Needamangalam Shanmugavadivel Pillai and Nachiyarkovil Raghava Pillai. Rooted in the Thanjavur tradition, he has accompanied leading Indian classical musicians in India and abroad and received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2021.

Trichy B. Harikumar is a renowned mridangam virtuoso in the field of Carnatic music. He hails from Changanassery, Kerala, and is known for his individual style („Bani“). He is appreciated for his precise strokes and nuanced playing, which has earned him the reputation of „Mridanga Rajavu“ (King of the Mridangam).
